Raise your hand if you LOVE coffee!
As coffee lovers we did not realize that there is so much we didn't know about coffee. I know that coffee packs a punch in the morning and is for sure a part of the daily routine. But do you know the difference between dark roast and light roast?
Up until recently, we thought that the darker the roast, the higher the caffeine content. Be honest, you thought the same too. We always thought a light roast was right in line with a decaf. But au contraire, that is not completely true.
During the roasting process, the density of the coffee beans tends to change. Beans that are roasted longer, have a lower density. If you measure your coffee by the scoops or tablespoons, which most people do, light roast coffee will have more caffeine. This is because the beans are denser and therefore heavier than a dark roast, due to shorter roasting times. If you weigh out your scoops or tablespoons, darker roasts will have more caffeine, because there is less mass. What that means for you is if you do the traditional amount of one tablespoon of ground coffee per one cup, you will have more caffeine in a light roast, than you will in a dark roast.
Are there exceptions to the rule? Why yes, yes there are. Stay tuned! (P.S. It involves our amazing MOTO coffee.
